We’ve all had injuries. What do you do when you get them? I recently injured my elbow. It was during an upright row. It was just a tweak and I didn’t think anything of it. The next day was chest day and I did my usual warm-up and then went into it. I started with a bench press and then I moved onto the incline press. This is where I realized I was in trouble. I couldn’t complete my warm-up set due to pain in my shoulder. At this point I had no other choice but to stop the workout. That was two months ago. Since then, I have used a lot of ice and rest. I have not been able to workout. It didn’t seem to improve. As a last resort, I saw a doctor who referred me to a physiotherapist. I found out that I irritated my rotator cuff. My shoulder had to compensate for the weakened elbow and this cause an overload. I wouldn’t have had this kind of problem, if I had just stopped working out when my elbow hurt. My advice to dealing with an injury is to stop working out, then seeking professional help (i.e. Doctor, Physiotherapist), and get back to health. Continuing working out will not fix the problem, in most instances, it makes it worse. Nobody likes to miss time, but it’s better to miss a little time than a lot. It would have taken a week or two for my elbow to recover, instead my shoulder has put me out for two months and counting.
