Nutrition

Exercise is only one part of the equation to achieving your fitness goals. You can work out till you are blue in the face, but if you don’t eat correctly than you’ll see very limited results. If your eating habits are poor but your exercise is good, you’re taking 1 step towards your goal but 2 steps backwards. For the most part, your body is dictated by what you put in your mouth. The old saying, “you are what you eat” is true.

Here are a few tidbits for you to consider:

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. By having a good breakfast everyday you help kick start your metabolism. You’ve been sleeping all night and when you wake up your metabolism is at its slowest. Ideally, you want to energize your metabolism to help you use more calories. A good wholesome breakfast is key to doing just that.

Dinner

Dinner should be the smallest meal of the day. It all has to do with how active you are. After dinner, most people are very inactive. So the food that you consume at dinner will end up being stored in your body because you are winding down after a long day. Essentially, what used as storage in your body is fat.

Snacks at Night

You can snack at night, so long as you give your body enough time to digest the food before you go to sleep. It’s actually important to have a light snack to keep your metabolism running. You need to feed your body to keep your metabolism going because while you sleep your metabolism slows down. The slower your metabolism is running, the slower you use calories that you have consumed.

Stay in the middle – don’t be stuffed or starved.

Either way your metabolism slows down. If you stuff yourself your metabolism slows down because your body has to work hard to digest that food. If you starve yourself, your metabolism slows because it has to conserve the food left in your body to make it through.
